Welcome guest blogger Lea Barrymire!

Today the Birdies are pleased to welcome new author Lea Barrymire. Lea’s new release, Valentine Master, is currently available. And Lea’s tackling an age-old question that I’m sure all women (well, many women anyway) can identify with:

To spit or swallow, that is the question…

I have always wondered why everyone writes about a male being turned on by a female swallowing semen. I mean, shouldn’t they just be happy that they got off? Does that philosophy boil down to a control thing? I’ve tried asking around, and it seems that men aren’t so open about their sexual preferences as they let on. At least not the men I chat with. Sure, get a bunch of guys together and they are going to chuckle and pat each other on the back about stuff, but when you actually ask for input they clam up.

So, is it really that awesome for a man to watch a woman swallow his jizz after a blowjob? In writing erotic romance, I find that most of us write our heroines not only swallowing, but that liking the taste. And, yes, I’m guilty of writing that as well. Do we include that scenario so we aren’t getting the heroine out of bed and brushing her teeth? I guess that would spoil the mood. *chuckling* That might go along with why we don’t write morning breath or flatulence into our stories. Some real life scenes need not be included.

I love the stories that talk about some male’s spunk tasting sweet, like candy. I don’t know where that man is, but honestly I haven’t found one that tastes anything close to candy. If you are one of these lucky women, hang onto that dick just for that reason alone!

Without male input and very few girlfriends admitting one way or the other, I went searching for some answers about semen, its properties and why someone would want to swallow for taste alone. According to Wiki, 65-75% of semen is made of the following: amino acids, citrate, enzymes, flavins, fructose (2–5 mg per mL), phosphorylcholine, prostaglandins, proteins, and vitamin C. Most of the substances listed trigger either sour or bitter receptors on the tongue. The fructose would taste sweet if alone, but would be battling with all that bitter and sour.

That leads me to believe that unless you are a fan of bitter or sour things, swallowing isn’t a taste preference. What does that leave? Intimacy? Perhaps, I mean swallowing something produced by your partner is definitely upping the intimacy factor. Laziness? I don’t know, I guess if you had to get out of bed to find something to spit into that could be a reason for swallowing? Right? Maybe it’s an acquired taste, like beer.

Now, in researching components, I stumbled across some new studies that actually found sperm to be an antidepressant. Wiki says that in a recent study women exposed to semen, vaginally I am assuming, seemed to suffer less from depression. The chemicals they are attributing this phenomenon to could also be absorbed through the stomach, though. So, perhaps that is a reason that some women enjoy swallowing. Instead of popping a pill they suck off their partner.

I’m not saying one way or the other is better. If you enjoy swallowing, feel free. If nothing else you are getting some Vitamin C out of the deal. If you are a spitter, that’s your prerogative. I just find the whole question fascinating.

Here’s one of my swallowing scenes from Valentine Master. Yep, the heroine does the deed, swallows and finishes with a smile like a good heroine.

“Enough, Heather. Do it now,” he growled at her. He grabbed her by the hair and pushed her down on his cock. She took him as far into her mouth as she could. The force he used caused heat to flow through her and she could feel wetness pooling in her slit.

She wrapped a hand around the base of his shaft and worked him with her mouth and hand in tandem, sucking and licking in fast thrusts. She could feel him hardening and knew he was close. She quickly collected some saliva with her other hand and slicked a finger from his scrotum to his anus. She was going to try something she had never done before. She rubbed around his rosette while working up and down his cock. He moaned and she slid her finger into his ass, stroking inside his rectum. He jerked at the intrusion, then growled as he came hard, pulsing cum down her throat. He held her head down as stream after stream flooded her mouth. She swallowed a few times to take it all and continued sucking him until he started to soften in her mouth. She licked him clean and savored his offering.

  1. My, my…something to think about. Thanks for being here Lea!

  2. Thanks for having me, ladies!

  3. You know the other one that always gets me, the way some authors describe the flavor and aroma of rimming. I have no problems with rimming, but writers who talk about the sweet essence and aroma there are stretching things quite a bit.

  4. I swallow. There is nothing quite like my lover losing himself in my mouth. It’s hot, it’s sticky, it’s wild and it’s something I love. I’m sure it wouldn’t bother him if I spit, but I’ve never been so inclined. Aside from the fact that it makes me hotter, I’ve always thought that it would be rude to spit. I’d be offended if he was going down on me and started spitting because be didn’t want to swallow and of my wetness.

    Just my 2 cents!!
